Asian studies has become an increasingly important area of study in North American colleges and universities. This is due in part to a growing acknowledgment that Asian cultures are of significance both regionally and globally. The Asian Studies Program offers students the opportunity to explore these cultures from a multidisciplinary perspective so that they are able to understand the social, cultural, political, and other forces that shape and have shaped Asian nations.

As scholars and teachers, the faculty of our department work to explain the political world. We are professors because we are excited about figuring things out. Our research is one of the ways we try to explain the booming, buzzing confusion of political life.
Research is an ongoing activity, and it is hard to paint a picture of a moving object. So this is a snapshot, not the whole story at all. I have listed work we have published or had accepted for publication over the past two years, so since the Summer of 2009. It also includes fellowships and honors. The publications are only a partial indicator because some projects take a long time to complete, and some of us publish a series of analyses based on the same research. Much of our work is also in the form of conference papers and invited presentations. But the publications are the most finished products, and the ones that are most available to other students of politics. Fuller descriptions of the work of each member of our faculty are available on the faculty section of this website. Learn more
